Hi there
Here are some of tips for the beginners of Print media Designers.
I. COLORS
1. Always Make a designs in CMYK format or after you give it a final shape convert it into CMYK. If you send an RGB file to print it will be converted to
CMYK before being printed and The result might be shocking the colors change the images change and final look may be quite disappointing.
2. Use Black as a single color black and not RGB black
C:0, M:0, Y:0, K:100
3.Use black with a 5% to 10% cyan where you are using black in good quantity rather try and use minimum of 2 colors in backgrounds etc.
4. Wherever you are using text matter in reverse try and use minimum number of colors say you are typing text in white on a ground
C:100, M:100, Y:100, K:100, the chances of text matter standing out is minimum.
5. Don't use color percentage below 5% as it may turn into white because printing presses requires to convert resolutions depending on print media they
use.
6. Use solid colors for screen print designs as grading etc is to some extend not possible with screen print
II. IMAGE
1. Use image in 300 PPI in original size if printing at 150 line, get the clear instructions from press you are getting your job printed for best results.
2. Convert image to CMYK mode before using it into a design
3. try and convert the image to tiff format as it is easily readable in most formats, gets good printing results and does not gets corrupt easily.
4. While scanning image try and get sure of the results as scanned images from printed catalog etc may not give good results or use the services of
professional scanning agencies
III. GENERAL
1. Make use of digital press to get a proof
2. try and give a dummy to printers to match your results
3. Give a bleed size of 5mm to 7mm
4. Use cut marks of 3 to 5 mm in C:100, M:100, Y:100, K:100, or K:100 to show th bleed size
5. The minimum font/text size to use is 6 points, under than that the text will be hard to read.
6. Always try and convert text to curves before converting your design for final print
7. Overprint black in final output file
